JIM HOPSON

Past-President, SK Roughriders

May 25, 2017  | Noon

Jim Hopson has been involved with football in Saskatchewan for much of his life.  He played high school football for Thom Collegiate in Regina and junior football with the Regina Rams. Jim’s professional football career began in 1973, joining the Saskatchewan Roughriders football club.  He became a starter on the offensive line for the Roughriders in 1974 and had the opportunity to play with many Roughriders greats, including Ron Lancaster and George Reed.

Hopson graduated from the University of Regina with a degree in education and went on to receive a master’s degree from the University of Oregon. After the 1976 season he retired from the Riders to focus on his teaching career. Jim retired as Director of Education for the Qu’Appelle Valley School Division at the end of 2004.

In 2005 Jim became the first president and CEO for the Saskatchewan Roughriders. Hopson served in this role until retiring in 2015.  Under his guidance, the Roughriders made 4 Grey Cup appearances and captured both the 2007 and 2013 Grey Cups.  Jim’s leadership helped turn the Saskatchewan Roughriders into one of the CFL’s model franchises and achieve record profits while continuing the teams’ deep rooted commitment to Saskatchewan communities.  In 2014 Jim was awarded the Hugh Campbell Distinguished Leadership Award for his contributions to the Canadian Football League, the game of football and Canada’s sporting culture.

Jim currently chairs the Conexus Arts Centre board of directors; sits on the SaskPower and George Reed Foundation board of directors; and acts as volunteer spokesperson for the Saskatchewan Brain Injury Association.

In 2016, Jim served on the Canada Post Review Task Force at the request of the federal government.

Jim is in demand as a keynote speaker presenting on topics such as leadership, team building, managing change and building excellence. He also speaks at various fundraisers and sports dinners.

Jim’s book, “Running the Riders”, is available at local bookstores and all Saskatchewan Roughriders stores.

Jim will bring his experiences to life in his leadership talk. Join Us!
